中国文学是指中国地区的文学创作。中国文学以汉语和中文为主流，但亦包括其他少数民族语言的文学作品。中国文学对周边国家的文学发展也有很大影响，日本，朝鲜，越南历史上都有大量的汉诗创作。以体裁而论，中国文学一向以韵文（诗歌）为主流。形式包括诗，词，赋，骈文等。中国散文在先秦时期以记述历史，宗教，思想等等为主（诸子散文）。散文文学兴盛于唐朝，出现了唐宋八大家。中国早期的小说可追溯到南北朝时期的“志怪小说”和唐代的“传奇”，但直到明清时期才成为主流。
