Founded in Beijing in the May of 1987, China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) was registered in the Ministry of Civil Affairs on Nov. 28, 1991. CAAM is a self-discipline and non-profit social organization formed based on the principle of equality and voluntariness, which consisting of enterprises and institutions as well as organizations engaged in production and management of automobiles, auto parts and vehicle-related industries founded within the boundaries of China.

中国汽车工业协会（简称“中汽协会”）成立于1990年1月1日，是经中华人民共和国民政部批准的社团组织，具有社会团体法人资格，地址设在北京，是在中国境内从事汽车整车、零部件及汽车相关行业生产经营活动的企事业单位和团体在平等自愿基础上依法组成的自律性、非营利性的社会团体。中汽协会是世界汽车组织（OICA）的常任理事会员单位，目前已同国际汽车行业组织和许多国家及地区的汽车相关组织建立了密切联系。
