月光石的一种，属于钠长石或成为拉长石的一个分支。主要是钠和钾的铝硅酸盐。月光石有着美丽的银色及淡蓝色晕彩而被人们当作宝石。长石族中斜长石系列内的晕长石和拉长石也被称作月光石，因为它们都可以显示出漂亮的晕彩。常见的月光石有白色和蓝色两种，白色月光石大部分人比较了解，而蓝月光石因为媒体宣传较少而没有人了解。白月光通常为白色，杂质较少，而蓝月光为蓝灰色，杂质相对较多，都反射蓝色光芒，有月光效应和猫眼效应。蓝月光有成为灰灰月光石或者蓝灰月光石。月光石还有另外的一个种类“橙月光石”极其罕见，另外最新在市面上出现的还是浅茶色的白月光石。

Der Mondstein ist eine Varietät des Orthoklas (Synonym: Adular) und gehört damit zur Gruppe der Feldspate. Seinen Namen erhielt er durch sein Schimmern, das an Mondlicht erinnert.
