Peridot, auch Chrysolith genannt, ist eine besonders reine Varietät des Minerals Olivin. Das hellgrüne, durchsichtige Mineral wird als Schmuckstein verwendet.
Peridot ist die magnesiumreiche Art von Olivin (
Forsterit) mit einer Zusammensetzung, die sich Mg
2SiO
4 annähert. Seine Kristalle sind orthorhombisch, und seine Härte ist leicht geringer als die von
Quarz.

祖母绿或西方祖母绿、月见草祖母绿）和
天宝石（产于陨石中，十分罕见）。优质橄榄石呈透明的橄榄绿色或黄绿色，清澈秀丽的色泽十分赏心悦目，象征着和平、幸福、安详等美好意愿。古代的一些部族之间发生战争时常以互赠橄榄石表示和平。在
耶路撒冷的一些神庙里至今还有几千年前镶嵌的橄榄石。
