爱沙尼亚共和国（爱沙尼亚语：Eesti Vabariik，英语：Republic of Estonia），简称”爱沙尼亚“，与南方的拉脱维亚和立陶宛并称为波罗的海三国。爱沙尼亚位于波罗的海东岸，芬兰湾南岸，西南濒临里加湾，南面和东面分别同拉脱维亚和俄罗斯接壤。国土总面积45339平方公里，主体民族为爱沙尼亚族，总人口131.3万（2015年），首都塔林。

爱沙尼亚民族形成于12～13世纪。曾先后被普鲁士、丹麦、瑞典、波兰、德国、沙俄和苏俄统治。1918年2月24日爱沙尼亚摆脱沙俄统治，成立了爱沙尼亚共和国。同年2月德国乘虚而入占领爱沙尼亚。同年11月，苏俄宣布对爱拥有主权。在此期间，爱沙尼亚人民为争取民族独立进行了不懈的斗争。1920年2月，苏俄承认爱沙尼亚独立。1940年7月成立了爱沙尼亚苏维埃社会主义共和国，同年8月加入苏联，成为苏联加盟共和国之一。1991年，继立陶宛之后，爱沙尼亚也宣布独立。^[1]

爱沙尼亚的国名（Eesti）可能来源于古罗马历史学家塔西佗的著作《日耳曼尼亚志》中描述的被称为“Aestii”的人群。该国拥有大量油页岩和石灰石以及覆盖47%领土的森林。

爱沙尼亚是一个发达的资本主义国家，1994年加入北约，2004年加入欧盟，2011年加入欧元区。由于其高速增长的经济，资讯科技发达，爱沙尼亚经常被称作”波罗的海之虎“，世界银行将爱沙尼亚列为高收入国家。爱沙尼亚也是全世界空气质量最优最舒适的国家，首都塔林被誉为“洗肺圣地”。
