淮河，古称淮水，与长江、黄河、济水并称“四渎”，当代已被列为我国七大江河之一。淮河发源于河南省南阳市桐柏县桐柏山太白顶西北侧河谷，干流流经湖北、河南、安徽、江苏四省，于江苏省扬州市三江营入江，流域地跨湖北、河南、安徽、江苏、山东五省。以废黄河为界，分成淮河和沂沭泗河两大水系。淮河干流全长约为1000千米，流域面积约为27万平方千米，其中沂沭泗流域面积约为8万平方千米。
