缸内直喷分层燃烧引擎FSI是Fuel Stratified Injection的英文缩写,意指燃油分层喷射。燃油分层喷射技术是电喷发动机利用电子芯片经过计算分析精确控制喷射量进入气缸燃烧,以提高发动机混和燃油比例,进而提高发动机效率的一种技术。与传统技术把燃油喷入进气歧管的发动机相比,FSI发动机的主要优势有:动态响应好、功率和扭矩可以同时提升、燃油消耗降低。而TFSI是指涡轮增压燃油分层喷射发动机,这个比FSI多出来的T字代表的则是涡轮增压。

FSI funktioniert prinzipbedingt nur mit Ottomotoren (Benzinern). Es handelt sich dabei um ein Einspritzverfahren, bei dem der Ottokraftstoff so aufbereitet wird, dass im Bereich der Zündkerze ein zündfähiges, normal fettes Gemisch besteht, während der übrige Brennraum ein sehr mageres, schwer zündfähiges Gemisch aufweist. Die Zündung des normal fetten Gemisches rund um die Zündkerze veranlasst dann die Zündung des restlichen, sehr mageren Gemischs.

Vorteile des FSI bzw. Schichtladungsverfahrens sind Verbesserung des Wirkungsgrads und die Reduzierung der gesetzlich geregelten Schadstoffemissionen durch die gezielte Gestaltung des Verbrennungsablaufs.
